Until now, i’d battled to come to terms with Avenged Sevenfold. The problem was that after they released the fantastic metal that was Waking the Fallen (2003), they headed into a rock ‘n roll vein with an injection of cheese. Their self-titled and City of Evil releases had single moments but never won me over as albums. Thankfully, Nightmare gets the balance right. Moments of heavy are balanced well with melody. Throw in attitude, guitar solos and an awesome cover, and i’m daring to suggest that Iron Maiden has a worthy band to pass the torch to. Favourite tracks – ‘Nightmare’, ‘Welcome To The Family’, ‘Save Me’ and, especially, the ballad ‘Tonight The World Dies’.
