KINGS OF LEON
Come Around Sundown
From the haunting sounds of opening track, ‘The End’, i realized that Kings of Leon was more than the overblown rock act i’d suspected they were. Come Around Sundown is like riding a wave in summer. Sometimes, when it gets chilly at day’s end, i didn’t want to get out of the water ’cause i somehow felt comfortable in its embrace. That metaphor applies to the biggest songs being found in the first half of the album but the latter possessing enough so that i didn’t want to let go…and was forced to replay. The band don’t seek hooks as big as those of their previous release but it’s a confident self i’m happy to experience. One grandiose exception is ‘Mary’ which draws on the Sixties for its anthem quality. Surprised that it wasn’t a single – would’ve been one of their biggest hits. Favourite tracks – ‘Pyro’, Mary’, ‘Radioactive’ and ‘The End’.
