Reviews of the best alternate, indie rock and indie pop albums that wonderfully don’t fit into the mainstream.

Blood Red Shoes – In Time to Voices

I was happy to be reminded of late Eighties and early Nineties alternate by the In Time to Voices album from BLOOD RED SHOES. My nostalgia was probably generated by sweet vocals and flowing rhythms because the instruments are packed with modern rock. It’s a good combination, like Kim Deal (Throwing Muses) on full throttle.

Blood Red Shoes - In Time to VoicesAlthough i regularly demand variation, which can be found here as ballad and noise pop, i’m more hypnotized by the band in full dance. The first 3 tracks, ‘In Time to Voices’, ‘Lost Kids’ and ‘Cold’, are striking winners that immediately brand the band with sound. ‘Top Kicking’ is more of the same except that it features the best use of the dual male and female vocals. The “ooh oo-a-ooa-oo” in ‘Slip into Blue’ “ah ahah ahaha” in ‘Down in the Dark’ are attractive.

BLOOD RED SHOES are a fantastic addition to the indie rock scene.
