JEFF HANNEMAN, founder member, guitarist and songwriter for thrash metal band, Slayer, died yesterday, May 3 2013.
2 years ago, Hanneman contracted necrotizing fasciitis which may have been initiated by a spider bite. He died from liver failure but it has not yet being determined if there was a link between the two. Hanneman had previously been a pill and cocaine abuser but had given that up years ago.
SLAYER is one of the Big 4 Thrash Metal bands ( along with Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth) and has released 11 albums since 1983. They’ve gone from strength to strength, winning 2 Grammy Awards for 2006’s Christ Illusion and nominated for 2 for 2009’s World Painted Blood.
Firm fan favourite songs include many of those composed by Jeff Hanneman such as ‘Jihad’, ‘World Painted Blood’, ‘Angel of Death’ and ‘War Ensemble’.
Thanks for the music, JEFF!
