“I literally haven’t slept properly for days since we received the great news,” yells Deity’s Muse vocalist Wayne ‘Longbeard’ Boucher. “California, London, Berlin: we look forward to sharing our brand of South African rock with you all!”
I’ve known DEITY’S MUSE for, i think, 12 years, since they first gigged at the old Burn Night Club in Umbilo Road, Durban. They’re appeared on several of my old compilation CDs and we experienced some great and awful (as all band s have) gigs together. Since i moved to the middle of nowhere over 3 years ago, i haven’t had the pleasure of watching them live again but they were cool enough to remember me and send me their 2010 release, New Trends in Slavery, which continued to prove that they are one of the best hard rock/groove metal acts in South Africa. This year, 2012, they released the single, ‘I’m the Observer’.
During their career, DEITY’S MUSE has shared the stage with cool, international acts such as Blind Guardian, Blindside and Knorkator. They’ve also rocked out from some of South Africa’s best festival stages such as Seasons Wither and Splashy Fen. Unfortunately, being South African means that it’s almost impossible to get overseas. Only a few such as Seether, Die Antwoord, Blk Jks and Agro have managed to do it. Most of South Africa’s greatest rock bands die before anyone hears them outside the country.
The good news is that DEITY’S MUSE teamed up with Turning Tricks Management (Louise Carver, Only Forever, Holly and the Woods) in South Africa and THC: Music (home to Mushroomhead, American Head Charge, Slaves on Dope, Primer 55, Oedipus and many more). The result is their first overseas tour. If you’re in any of these cities, show the lads some support!
