Religion Versus Women
I support women as strippers, mothers or presidents because i believe in the right to choose. I believe in human rights which makes all equal so that there would be no need for the subcategory “women’s rights”.
I normally let women through the door first and, if encounter one crying, even a stranger, i’m tempted to hug her – that’s biological and compassionate, not chauvinistic (because intent counts).
If i see a horror such as a Youtube video where a woman is being publicly beaten, i’m confused between wanting to kill the men and break down and cry. That photo, on Times magazine, of the Aghan woman with her ears and nose cut off, made me depressed for weeks.
Today it hit closer home (Knysna, South Africa) in a different way. An email from a young, talented, clever woman bombed me with emotions; anger at her christian fundamentalism, frustration with her brainwashing and despair for her future. She believes that her god wants women to be subservient to men. She advises women to do so. Haven’t men done enough fucking damage without women bashing themselves too?
