For all the criticisms of the South African government, one thing they can be praised for is their development of rights for the gay community. In 2006, South Africa became not only the first country in Africa to legalize same-sex marriages but were also only the fifth country in the world to do so. I’m a heterosexual yet consider it a landmark decision as it’s about HUMAN FUCKING RIGHTS, something direly needed in our world of prejudice.
South Africa has travelled a long way from imprisoning gay men to where my own little town of Knysna hosts the famous gay pride fest, The Pink Loerie. But the stupidity of hate reared ugly in parliament this week when a motion to praise South Africa’s Francois Nel, the new Mr. Gay World winner, was blocked by the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+).
Surely that’s a contradiction of our LGBT laws? It’s certainly another spanner in the wheels of so-called democracy and further proof that religions are rarely about love. Fucking idiots! Shame on the ACDP! Shame on the Freedom Front Plus! So here’s a video just for them:
