Regal even with her nose cut off, this photo of a young woman from Afghanistan won the World Press Photo of the Year for 2010.
Bibi Aisha was only 18 years old when she left her husband due to domestic abuse. The Taliban gave him permission him to cut off her ears and nose! Thankfully, aid workers found her and took her back tot he USA for surgery.
Barbaric customs such as these are merely outlets for barbaric men. Exposing such is an extremely important, humane act yet this photo provoked controversy and detractors for its sensationalism. There are always fools in this world but i’m sure that i’m not alone in appreciation of this photo’s importance.
