The Proposal (6/10)

Margaret (Sandara Bullock), a successful book editor, is a bitch. Her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), along with the entire office, hates her. But when she’s threatened with deportation to Canada, she blackmails Andrew into saying he’ll marry her. With an immigration officer bent on proving the intended nuptials a sham, Sandra forsakes the safety of her city element and heads to Alaska to meet Andrew’s family who’re celebrating the 90th birthday of Andrew’s grandmother whose played by the charismatic, Betty White (remember Rose from television’s The Golden Girls).
Naturally, hatred evolves to mixed feelings, intimate encounters and the discovery of the real people beneath the exterior they show everyone else. In the long term, The Proposal won’t be memorable but in the moment it’s easy to experience the bittersweet “oohs” and “ahhs” that will first make you nostalgic for an ex and then give you a smile to take home.
